Ozzy hopes Bill Ward will join Black Sabbath for final album

Ozzy Osbourne recently sat down with Esquire where he mentioned he hopes original Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward comes back for what is to be the band’s final album. Osbourne said:

“…What I’m really happy about is, if this is Black Sabbath‘s last hurrah, then we’ll have ended it on an up note rather than when I left in 1979 and everybody was fucked up on one thing or another and I was marked out as being the worst, you know. It ended on a bad note, so… The only thing sad about it is I hope Bill Ward can get his stuff together to do this because… one of the biggest things I’m proud of in my life was that Black Sabbath wasn’t a band that was created by some business mogul in London or New York. That we were four guys who had a great idea and it worked from record one, and we still… Would you believe that it took 45 years to get our first number-one album in America? It was amazing to me.”

Black Sabbath plan final album, farewell tour

In a Metal Hammer exclusive, Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that Black Sabbath will be working on a new album next year, followed up by a farewell tour to support. Here’s the statement from the Prince of Darkness himself:

“The whole Sabbath experience this time around was great. We all made friends, we didn’t fuck around, we all knew that we had a job to do, and we did it. It was a lot of fun. So we’re going to do one more album, and a final tour. Once the dust settled after the last tour we started discussing the idea, because we were getting asked about it all the time. I said to Sharon ‘What’s going on? Because if there’s no more Sabbath I want to get on with my own thing again’ and she came back and said ‘Let me look into it.’

Three weeks later I asked her about it again, and she said ‘Oh, I still have to talk to so and so…’ and I said ‘Sharon, I ain’t fucking 21 any more, if we’re going to do it I want to do it before I’m 70!’ Time isn’t on our side! So she made the call and came back and said ‘Yeah, the record company wants another album.’ I believe Rick Rubin is going to do it with us again.”

He finished the news saying:

“It’ll be sooner rather than later. Obviously a lot of it is coming down to Tony‘s health, he’s obviously got his cancer treatment, but we’ll get onto it next year. I don’t know if we’ll be writing in England or LA, but I’ll fly to the fucking moon for it if I have to!”
