Exodus

Exodus premiere lyric video of title track of Blood In, Blood Out

Above you can check out a lyric video for the title track from Exodus’ upcoming Blood In, Blood Out. Guitarist Gary Holt had the following to say about the new track:

“Time to let a fast one outta the bag! Check out this advance preview of the title track Blood In, Blood Out and get another taste of our upcoming new record! Fast raging thrash! One of many in the new disc! Bay Area sickness to slap you upside your face!”

As if I wasn’t excited enough already! This album continues to look like it’s going to deliver. I’m looking forward to it even more and certainly am getting more anxious to see the band on tour with Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies later this year.

Blood In Blood Oout will be released via Nuclear Blast and hits stores on October 10th in Europe, 13th in the UK, and 14th in the US.

Exodus want you!

Exodus are going to be filming a new music video for one of the tracks off their upcoming release Blood In Blood Out. Everything you need to know was laid out in a tweet the band posted earlier today, which you can see above. Lucky San Franciscoans(?) or whatever you people call yourselves.

Exodus fan arrested for Facebook post containing band’s lyrics

On August 24th a Kentucky man by the name of James Evans was arrested for “terroristic threatening” after being reported to authorities for posting some of the lyric’s from the song “Class Dismissed (A Hate Primer)” by Exodus to his Facebook. The status took the following lines from the chorus:

“Student bodies lying dead in the halls, a blood splattered treatise of hate. Class dismissed is my hypothesis, gun fire ends in debate.”

Evans was released on Wednesday after spending eight days in jail, he commented on the situation saying:

“It’s nonsense. I feel like my civil rights have been violated. You know first amendment freedom of speech out the window. Even all the guys I was in the cell with they thought it was nonsense themselves. I had several officials tell me it was nonsense that there was no reason why I should have even been here.”

Exodus guitarist Gary Holt also added his two cents:

“The idea that an individual in this great country of ours could be arrested for simply posting lyrics to a song is something I never believed could happen in a free society. James Evans was simply posting lyrics to a band he likes on Facebook, and he was locked up for it. The song ‘Class Dismissed (A Hate Primer)’ was written as a view through the eyes of a madman and in no way endorses that kind of fucked-up behavior. It was 2007’s Virginia Tech massacre perpetrated by Seung-Hui Cho that was the subject and inspiration to write the song, one in which we put the brakes on playing it live after the Sandy Hook shooting, as we did not want to seem insensitive.

As some of us in Exodus are parents, of course these things hit close to home, it’s every parent’s worst fear. These moments are the stuff of nightmares, and life – as well as music – isn’t always pretty. But when we start to overreact to things like lyrics by any band – including Exodus – and start arresting people, we are caving in to paranoia and are well on our way to becoming an Orwellian society.”

This is pretty ridiculous that someone would get arrested for posting music lyrics to Facebook. Granted, they are somewhat inflammatory lyrics and I don’t know if the police looked to see if this was an original message, song lyrics, or something else. Then again, I don’t know what police protocol is for something like. You do have to consider, what if it had been a poem about suicide? Next thing you know the person who posted it is on suicide watch. It seems like it’s a pretty fine line as to how we should interpret social media postings like this and how authorities should handle them. You can find the local news stories from Kentucky here and an update here.

The song is off the band’s 2010 release Exhibit B: The Human Condition, which is a killer record. So here is the full album on for you to listen to, if you’re only interested in the song in question skip to track 5, although I highly recommend the entire record. Exodus will be releasing their new album Blood In, Blood Out on October 14th via Nuclear Blast.

Exodus confirm guests on Blood In Blood Out

Thrashers Exodus have confirmed guests that will be featured on their new offering Blood In Blood Out. Earlier we confirmed the appearance of guitarist Kirk Hammett of Metallica on “Salt The Wound”. Additional guests are producer/musician Dan The Automator on “Black 13” and Chuck Billy of Testament on “BTK”.

Guitarist Gary Holt commented on working with Dan The Automator saying:

“We ran into each other a couple times. I knew what I wanted to hear and I knew he could do it, and could do it that day. So we sent him a file with the drums and guitars we already had there and just told him to go crazy with it.”

Cassette Store Day returns

Cassette Store Day is back for year two and is set to feature over 200 releases in the cassette tape format. The event has been scheduled worldwide for September 27th. You can check out the list of releases, stores, and events at the CSD website.

As a music collector I think this is a pretty sweet and nostalgic thing. It hadn’t really occurred to me that, like vinyl, there might be a cassette resurgence. At least the idea of it never crossed my mind until I saw Skeletonwitch’s ultimate bundle for Serpents Unleashed, that came with the album in cassette format. This will definitely be something I’m just going to have to partake in from here on out. Though I never purchased tapes growing up – at the time the world was making the switch to CDs so cassettes weren’t as prevalent in stores anymore – I did listen to cassettes. It might have just been children-related stuff but hey, it counts!

Anyway, below is a list of the metal releases getting the analog treatment for the day.

1349 – Massive Cauldron of Chaos (Season Of Mist)
Weedeater – Sixteen Tons (Season Of Mist)
Weedeater – …And Justice For Y’All (Season Of Mist)
Enslaved – Riitiir (Nuclear Blast)
Exodus Exhibit – B-The Human Condition (Nuclear Blast)
Immortal – Sons of Northern Darkness (Nuclear Blast)
Suffocation – Pinnacle of Bedlam (Nuclear Blast)
Testament – Dark Roots of Earth (Nuclear Blast)
Testament – The Formation of Damnation (Nuclear Blast)

Kerry King talks about new Slayer record

While in Germany for Wacken Open Air last week Slayer guitarist Kerry King was interviewed by ARTE Concert. King gave this update on the new record:

“For anybody that was worried about what SLAYER was gonna sound like post-Hanneman, don’t worry about it. I know people are gonna think that, people are gonna expect us to fail because it’s the first record without Jeff; I get it. But I’m also very proud of what of we’ve done so far towards new material. It’s fast, the slow stuff’s heavy. I mean, it’s… Everything that people liked SLAYER for in the past is on this record.”

So far, the band has only given us a taste of new material with the track “Implode” which has me excited to hear more. The band are planning for a 2015 release but no date has been specified. No title has been announced for the record either, more news will be posted as it becomes available. The band will be embarking on a 17-day North American tour with Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies, dates below.

  • Exodus reveal album artwork

That right there is the insanely metal cover art for Bay Area thrashers Exodus’s upcoming 10th studio album Blood In Blood Out. The album is scheduled to hit shelves on October 14th through Nuclear Blast.

The awesome artwork is a gift to us from Swedish artist Par Olofsson. Exodus axeman Gary Holt said the following about Olofsson’s work:

“The concept came from Par Olofsson – I fed him the title and he immediately came up with the final concept, and it’s perfect! One of my favorite covers we’ve ever done and it fits the title and theme to a T!”

I think the fact that the album artwork has been released means that we’re closer to the premiere of new music. I for one can’t wait til they leak a new song from the album because I’m dying to hear some new Exodus.

Blood In Blood Out features the return of Steve “Zetro” Souza on vocals after parting ways with Rob Dukes.
